During the 19th Century landowners in the Girvan Valley planted trees in the forms of small roundels, to enhance the beauty of thier estates and also to serve as windbreaks and many of these roundels were planed on existing mounds. Green number four lies on the eastern side of the smaller of two such roundels contained in that part of the courselying on the left bank of the river.
